Silverwing Golf Course in Calgary Alberta Has Great Service!

by admin on March 17, 2010

On Thursday, June 25, 2009 I had the pleasure of golfing the Silverwing Golf Course in a golf tournament with work. This course is located almost beside the Calgary airport in the Northeast allotment of the city.

The Course

The course itself is quite picturesque, with views of both the downtown core and the rocky mountains on a clear day. The course itself was in rough shape, more than likely because it is relatively early in the golf season in Calgary. There were many spots that were blocked off to keep the carts off the different parts of the fairways. The greens themselves mostly were in worthy shape and I expect as the golf season progresses this will be a non issue when it is fully recovered from the winter.

I enjoyed the fact that the course is good for all levels of players. There were challenges for the experienced golfers, yet it was forgiving for those who were new to the sport.

Food Service

Our tournament included a box lunch to bring out on the course, as well as a banquet style buffet dinner after our afternoon of golf. The boxed lunch had genuine turkey sandwiches (not processed turkey) on a ciabatta bun, along with a cookie, a bag of chips and a bottle of water. I gave away the cookie and chips away, but the sandwich was tasty and new.

For dinner, we had pesto chicken, potatoes, mixed vegetables, salads, buns and baked beans. Everything was tasty, hot, and cooked to perfection. There was a tableful of delicious desserts, but I steered positive of those.

All in all, the food and banquet services were top notch.

Service

This is really where I thought this course shone. Every single person I came in contact with was pleasant, happy, suited and glad to see us, and asking what they could do to help. While we were on the course, a nice girl came by in a cart (which is typical) however, even her approach was to take the time to ask us how we were enjoying our golf game and our time on the course, as she was filling our orders.

I am a huge advocate of customer service in all industries, whether I am providing it in my job, or receiving it as a customer, and it is obvious that this golf course has the same philosophy, because every one of their staff was consistently friendly, helpful and involved to fabricate our time in their establishment pleasant.

My only danger the whole day was how windy this course was. I am not clear whether it was honest an incredibly windy day, or whether it is simply because this golf course is on a flat landscape beside the airport with few trees for shelter. Given all of the positives I experienced on the course, I will look forward to finding out whether it was simply the wind that particular day, or whether it is in fact the location of the course, because I will definitely be back at Silverwing to know for sure.
